Friday Night: 2016 OCS Irish Paralympic Awards Ceremony

At a gala dinner in Ballsbridge on Friday night, we were delighted to spend the evening recognising the fantastic achievements of the Paralympics Team and Support Staff in Rio 2016. This is an important night for the whole team as it acknowledges the work and achievements of everybody associated with the Paralympics Ireland set-up, athletes, doctors, coaches, co-ordinators, fundraisers and the media who actively engage in promoting the sport.

Saturday Evening: People of the Year Awards

Another night, another suit and this time we saw another successful evening for Paralympics Ireland with the medallists from Rio 2016 being award Sports Person of the Year.

It was confirmed on Sunday that Liam Harbison is to be appointed the new Director of the Sport Ireland Institute which will see his departure from the Paralympics Ireland team after 14 years. Liam led the transformation of Paralympic Sport in Ireland resulting in a measurable improvement in athlete performance at Paralympic Games.

Commenting on his appointment, Liam Harbison said: While sorry to be leaving the Paralympic movement after 14 great years and the many great people I’ve had the privilege of working with and for, I’m excited by the new opportunity and challenge of directing the Sport Ireland Institute. I look forward to working with the Sport Ireland Institute and the National Governing Bodies to continue the great work in world class service delivery to Ireland’s athletes through to Tokyo 2020.
